Compaq recovery software
« on: December 13, 2006, 07:12:10 AM »
I needed to recovery my Compaq 6000 series (6350us).  I did not make the recovery disk like I should have and ended up buying a set from Recoverydisk.com.  It worked great but the disk did not include the all the programs.  Programs like Office , MS Works, WinDVD etc.

Recovery.com said that there may have been a supplemental cd that came with the computer, which I don`t have.  However I asked Compaq about it and they said that MS Works etc did not come with the computer which I find hard to believe.  I  got the computer second hand from a friend.

Does anyone have or can make or know where I might be able to get a recovery set or suppmental disk that would have these programs on them?  If you have a Compaq 6000, did yours come with these programs?

The OS is WinXP Home edition.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks.

eBay would be the only hope you have. As you are not the original owner I am not surprised that Compaq would not send them, even if they were part of the original package.

Another fine example of why original CD's supplied with any machine should be treated like Gold...

Just curious, but........If you say you have win xp, have you tried to restore your computer back to an earlier date?

You can always ask your friend if he still has the originals.

If he reloaded completely there is nothing to restore to.

Yes, the computer was reloaded completely.  The Restore disk I got from Restoredisk.com included 3 disk, not 5.  I was refered to Restoredisk by Compaq.

I do have the full set from a older HP machine.  Is there a way around the branding?  I tried to install the HP on a completely reformatted Compaq and it came up with a message that is was only for HP.  Is there a way to get around this?  Where is this branding info located, on the hard drive????

Restore disks are for specific machines and are not installable on others. That was the way to prevent piracy then for those makers and Microsoft.
