I am using win xp home on my desktop.
I think it may have been windows millenium first.
My computer was slow but no viruses or worms.
I got a little reckless and deleted ntldr and some of the files from 2003 in my boot directory.
it would not boot into windows. I copied ntldr, boot.ini and ntdetect.com back on the c drive.
now it says
When I boot from the set up CD I am getting:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows root> \system32\hal.dll
please re-install a copy of the above file
All that repair install is way over my head for now.
Can't I just recopy the files I deleted to the root directory?
but I only deleted files from c:\ not from system32
