Can't Get Drivers To Work
« on: December 31, 2006, 03:08:54 PM »
I am trying to install a cd into a "Toshiba, 330CD" I just picked up. Problem is there is no HDD. So all I have is my floppy "A" Drive. I looked everywhere and could only find one file that is supposed to work from the floppy and not have to use the "C" Drive.
It listed the following Autoexec.bat, and Config.sys files.

CODE:

Autoexec.bat

@ECHO OFF
Prompt $p$g
cls
\BIN\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000

Config.sys

LASTDRIVE=Z
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH
FILES=30
DEVICE=\DEV\TAISATAP.SYS /D:MSCD000 /N:1

END

With the two sub-directories with files.

What I get back from the computer is:

No Drivers Installed - No Drives Needing Support

Device driver not found: 'MSCD000'.
No valid CD-ROM device drives selected.

Anyone have any ideas, I've used up everything I've ever learned with no luck?

What are you going to do with no hard drive and therefore no operating system?

To be real simple on this, I'm waiting for a new HDD to get here and then I'll have a complete unit. However, until then, I was trying to get the CD installed so later it will be easier to install a complete OS.

You simply boot the machine with your Windows CD and it will install from there. There is no way to install drivers without a hard drive and no need. What operating system are you planning on installing?

I could not find a link for this model number. What is the hardware description? I am assuming a laptop?

So are you saying you don't have a boot disk for drive A:  ?

What Operating system are you trying to install?

Like GX1_Man pointed out the correct model number
would help us to assist you.

OK, here goes. The Computer is a TOSHIBA 330CDS/4.0, Model # PH1272U VCD. The CD is a TEAC CD-220EA  CD Mod.Ver. -32, Part # 19770410-32.
The system also has a TEAC FD-05HG 5686U, Part # 19307556-86 1.4 Floppy Drive.
The whole thing is, I'm going to load Windows 95 and have the disk here. The way I found out that the CD isn't installed is I put the Win.95 CD in and the system won't even try to read it. It says to insert a system disk in drive "A:\" and press any key.
I thought that if there were any other problems, now would be the time to find them, when I have time to workon it, rather than latter when I'm expecting to be able to use it.
Make Sence? Clear as Mud HUH.

I see.

Well Windows 95 CD's, unlike Windows XP CD's, are not bootable.

So you will indeed need a bootdisk with working CD Rom drivers.

Do you have Windows 95, or Windows 95b?

A windows 95 start up disk may or may not have appropriate CD drivers. I would download a free Win98SE boot disk and boot with that. It will identify the correct CD drive letter to install with.

www.bootdisk.com will give you a download file. Double click on it with a blank floppy in the drive and it will create the Win98SE boot floppy. When the hard drive is in, type in from the a:>

fdisk and press enter

Create primary drive and choose to allow all drive space and make it active.

Then reboot with the boot disk and from the a:> type in:

format c:/u and press enter

the X:setup and press enter  (where X is the letter actually assigned to the CDROM. You will see it on screen.

If you have an original Windows 95a then the procedure will have to altered, due to the limitations of the file systems it sees.
