    Mozilla Thunderbird
    « on: January 05, 2007, 01:35:14 PM »
Just got Thunderbird yesterday, but I'm having some troubles getting it going. I create a new account, and so on, but when I click "recieve mail" to test if I have any Inbox messages I get "Connection timed out".
I've heard there are alot of possible reasons for this.

    If this helps any:

Im currenty trying with a Yahoo! account.
My connection to the internet is by cable.

    Thunderbird is awesome.
    Good choice.
As for your problem - how is Thunderbird currently set up?

Sorry, but what are you referring to when you say "set up?"  :-/

      Sorry.
      How did you configure it?
When you opened T-Bird for the first time it should have given you a screen to set up your email account(s).
How did you set it up there?
I'll have a look and see if I can find the right info for servers etc.

        Ahh, alright.

Well I did follow what it said to at http://opensourcearticles.com/articles/thunderbird_15/english/part_01 , pretty much just followed what it asked.

Did you check part 10, about Gmail and Yahoo addresses?

Alright got Ypops d/l, followed the guide, but when I click "Get Mail" at the end it comes up with "Could not connect to server localhost; the connection was refused."

            http://webmail.mozdev.org/

            Specifically:
            http://webmail.mozdev.org/serversettings.html

            http://webmail.mozdev.org/setup.html
            is very much step-by-step .
Not knocking the page you are already using,  I found it too when looking around.
But I just used this page, followed along,  and naturally goofed.   :)    When I went back, and did exactly what it said to do,   it then worked fine.... with a Yahoo email account.

Wait! :D Fixed the problem. The guide says to change the port to 111, but looking into YPops, I found it wants 110, not 111. Well that solved the Thunderbird problem! Thanks for the help guys!

Fwiw,  I have not tried ypops.

I used the webmail extensions from http://webmail.mozdev.org/
