Price/performance is nothing to do with what is best, but which has the least cost per unit speed. If a graphics card half as fast as the X1950XT had a cost of £1 its price/performance ratio would be hundreds of times better than that of the X1950XT. Of course this is using the price/performance ratio to the extreme, but I just thought I would clarify that the ratio does NOT equal fastest. (Nor does it equal cheapest for that matter).

BEST to buy. Not BEST period. BEST price/peformance for that matter.

A GeForce 2 MX has a clock speed of 166Mhz and costs about £5. You get 33.2Mhz per £1.
A X1950XT has a clock speed of 625Mhz and costs about £150. You get 4.17 Mhz per £1.

Thereofre the GeForce2 MX has a better price for its perfomance than the X1950XT, using this simple example. My point is that when you said "He's getting the best price/performance period", he's not. He might be getting a very good price/performance, and the GeForce2 would of course be a terrible choice.. but, technically, the GeForce 2 has a better price/performance.

I feel I must add this though.
The GeForce 2 MX may have a better clock speed/price, but that doesn't make it better performance/price.
I agree that it probably has a better performance/price ratio because it's so cheap, but the performance isn't all that good, so if you compared it to something else then the example may break down.
          Then again, it may not.
By the way - COL at the personal text.

My point is the performance price ratio doesn't matter how "good" or "bad" a card is! Most of the high-end cards would probably have terrible price per performance, whereas just about any graphics card, if you can buy it for £0.01, would have virtually infinitely higher price per performance than other cards. But that doesn't make them good.

Exactly. Just another incorrect "all inclusive" generalization that is wrong.

You're right, the price/performance has nothing to do with how good a card is, just how powerful it is for the money.
It has no effect on the performance or price of the card, and should not be used to judge different cards against each other.
