Floppy Drive Problem
« on: January 06, 2007, 07:19:09 AM »
Hey guys I purchased a floppy drive for my new computer simply because I needed to format one of my harddrives.  Something is wrong with it though I get the actual icon for it in my computer but when I insert a disk and double click to view the files it waits and then says "Please insert a disk to drive a:..."  The floppy was purchased from new egg it is a sony floopy drive but it came with no disk and I have not been able to find any drivers online.  Have you any idea of what I should do?

You shouldn't need drivers for it at all. Have you checked to see if the cabling is correct ? ?
It's being seen by the BIOS otherwise Windows would not see it.

Correction to the above: If it's an external unit it might need drivers.
In that case visit Sony's site.

It could also be a media problem. Take one of your floppies and format it on a machine that has the same flavor of Windows as you have and see if this works...

Yeah its an internal not external.  The only cabling would be the ide cable right?  If so I have tried 2 different cables.  I tried to right click the drive in my computer and choose format and I get a little wait with the hour glass then the message "There is no disk in drive a" I have tried more than one disk too.

In my computer it is reading as drive a:

Do you have the Floppy drive cable plugged backwards? :-?

The end with the ribbon not smooth and flat but, with a raised
twist in the ribbon cable goes to the floppy drive.
