OT - How old are you?
« on: January 09, 2007, 11:42:34 AM »
I do apologize if there is already a similar topic, I did search.
And I also apologize for the off topic, this is my second off topic in an hour or so.
Anyway, I just wanted to get a feel for how old people are on these forums.
If you prefer not to answer then don't answer.
I'm 15.

I'm 17. 2 more months til' I'm legal, then graduation in May. How time flies, I still remember going to class in Kindergarten.

Computers are the future, not us. Learn everything you can about them while you still can, soon they will be learning about us... Every bit of advice that I give you is best guess, it is your choice whether or not you listen to it.

I'm to flippin' old. So old, in fact, that I remember talking to Methuselah, who died in the year of the great flood. ;D ;D

Let me put it this way.  I remember the first PC I used at work when I was working for a large organization back in 1984.  It was an IBM PC with no hard drive.  Had to boot from a 5.25 inch floppy disk, which loaded DOS into memory, then remove that disk and insert the LOTUS 1-2-3 disk, the only application software we had at the time.  By this time, I had been out of high school for 20 years.  I'll let you do the math.

LOL.  Well, I might buy them while they're still a little green but, if I do, I let them ripen more before I eat them.  I always have liked the taste of them better when they're ripe enough to have lost all trace of green.  Bananas with freckles are quite good.   :)

Whippersnappers all. You to soybean. ;D

      1. Whats a Univac?
      2. Whats a punch card?
      3. Whats a paper tape?
      4. Whats a mainframe?
      5. What "home" computer came with a whopping 4k of memory, no disk drives, stored programs on an audio cassette, and you had to write your own programs?

Me and Methuselah might be the only ones who still remember. ;D

I was rummaging around our workshop recently and I cam across an old teleprinter...

Hmm...  Old "home" computers...  The original ZX81 had 1K, so it's not that...!
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.

      1. Univac is a computer of some sort, ac stands for analogue computer.
      2. Punch card is what you used to use instead of disks?  They had programs and data on them, I think.
      3. Paper tape was used for storage too?
      4. Mainframe is the equivalent of a server nowadays, and they could be used by many people at once through dumb terminals, like timesharing, saving the costs of lots of computers.
      5. Was it an Atari of some sort?
And no, I didn't look these up on the internet.  Honestly.

Mayhap,How old has life made you. ;D

                  My oldest grandchild is 16.

                  My daughter is 36.

                  My son is 26.

Me and the boss are 55. ;D

PeckerWood is one reason why the forum needed
                  room for people over 105.

Since he is only a figment of you folks imagination,
                  maybe he shouldn't count.

I am 15, and I ask that my age will not reflect my posts.

I work for my school fixing computers, and consider it fun, especially for a grade.

Mostly I find that it doesn't though, as everyone's great here and not prejudiced against younger folks.
Wish I could fix PCs at my school, especially for a grade.
But my school sucks, and the technicians are useless.

I also ask that my age and PeckerWoods age not reflect on us.

In May my son gets his degree in CS and IT and will start his
Masters in CS this summer. He is now working an internship with
ProLogic. He will not help me without much begging. He tells me
I can do it myself if I try.

Now,it is son telling daddy what to do.

I am amazed at the ability of todays youths.

Always remember, the geeks at school when I
went, are the guys in the  Yachts today.

Age doesn't matter. On the Internet, your personality dictates your "age". For example, GX1_Man is "5000" years old because he's smart, polite and to-the-point. Mac is "3" for obvious reasons. :D

As far as I'm concerned, street1, you're "20" -- not a sage from experience yet, but lacking the childishness of an adolescent. ;)

Sorry for bitting your head off bro. I've looked through google  page after google page you'll find that half the links in your suggested search are already clicked looking at my screen. It's just very frustratig because I know something is not working the way it is supposed to. but I don't know it its my MOBO or the HD's I've done everything that has been suggested by google pages (as you can see by the original post I am having an error not an "I'm stuck") and I've fallowed the steps exactly in the Nvidia tutorial and its getting to the point where I just wanna go buy 4 brand new SATA drives just for this cause I can get it to work that way. Anyways if someone does know someone that is a server/RAID expert please to ask them or tell them to check this out for me. it would be much appreaciated.

                                      Univac, punch cards, blah blah.

I had to take my state civil service test on a manual typewriter.
