I don't know too much about overclocking but that with some you can do it through BIOS and others you physically change something on the motherboard or CPU (not sure about these, let me know if I'm wrong).

YES there definitely are side effectives.  It will shorten your CPU's life span significantly.  The problem is, is it worth it? How long?  I really don't know the answers and would also like to know myself.  It would be a great tool for a couple of computers that i have if this could be done.

Overclocking . . . try using Google, there are a lot of articles on how to do it and the benefits and drawbacks.
As mreeves said, it may shorten the lifespan of your CPU if you don't have good cooling in place.
But, it can improve performance significantly if carried out with care and patience, and can save you upgrading.
The CPU, RAM and graphics card can be overclocked but I don't think anything else can.

The system bus? In fact if your bus clock is too low it can bottleneck everything else on the system and make your other overclocks worthless.

Is the system bus the ONLY thing that matters?  ;)

I managed to change my processor speed from 70MHZ to 130 MHZ. Well, it does give a change. How i did it? i connected a 3V battery to a spoil, which controls the available electricity for the devices. Also, everything was faster it seems, since my 24X cd-drive acted like a 52X one.

    Really ? ?

What OS are you running? It seems that what ever OS you are running will run extremely slooooow.

No no! The system bus is a bottleneck so it can't possibly matter at all!

I've used Windows 95 on 100Mhz before just fine.

      Oh wait, that's the GPU.
      Of course.
