Monitor shuts off

My monitor shuts down shortly after starting the computer.  Is this related to the video card?  The computer does not get much use at all.  Thanks, John

Try that monitor on another computer and another monitor on this computer to isolate exactly where the problem is.

Another thing to check-
If this is happening when veiwing online videos or when the computer sits without any mouse or keyboard input for 5 minutes your monitor power options may be set wrong.
They can be found in start/control panel/display properties/screensaver/power/power schemes
