Getting a drivers license is probably the best gift I have gotten thus far in my life (turned 16 a little over 5 months ago).

You have to take the test the day you get it?  I had all of my stuff done months before I went in to get mine.  The only thing I had to do when I arrived at the DMV was take an eye test and pay $25...

    Anywho, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I just got a test scheduled -- for the 25th. That'll give me time. :)

No, I don't have to take it on my birthday -- I just thought It'd be cool that I could get a license on my birthday. ;)

What state are you in Dilbert?  Sounds like the old days here in Ohio.  Now, the requirements are higher.  As I understand it, persons under the age of 18 must drive with a permit for 6 months  and they may only drive if there is a person age 21 or older with a valid Ohio drivers license in the front seat with them.  And, if you are under 18, 50 hours driving experience is required before you can get your license.  Reference: http://columbusoh.about.com/cs/government/ht/Ohio_Drivers.htm

Oregon. In Oregon, in order to get a license, you must have had at least 100 hours of driving time (got it in 2006 while I was 15! ;D), have proof of school enrollment, completion or exemption, some form of I.D. (my permit works in this case) and... something. :)

remember dilbert, while taking your driving test, always go slow. you dont get penalized by going under the speed limit, but they deduct points if you go about 5-10 km/h over the speed limit.

In Oregon, they get uppity if you're 1 MPH over. I'm keeping it under, I promise. Although... my car likes to go fast. 8-)

be very observant for park and school zones, failing to slow down for them is an automatic fail where i live.

what car do you use? is it yours?

Do you get any of the manoeuvres in the US tests (in the UK we get 2 or 3 of emergency stop, reverse around a corner, turning in the road (3 - 5 point turn) and parallel park)?

I got all of them but the parallel park in my test and passed it first time (and somehow with no faults!).

The interesting thing is that we had to abort the emergency stop twice as there was traffic behind us.

Haha, I work at a car dealership (I am the guy that does the washing :P).  And when we get a pretty fast car in I take it around the block for a "test drive".  Lol.
