CD drive broken, and a "!" in device manager
« on: January 15, 2007, 04:57:10 PM »
My cd drive recently stopped working, it just makes noises every few seconds.  It doesn't show up in my computer either, while everything else is working.  In the device manager there is a yellow exclamation point next to PCI device, and it says drivers not installed.  I have a cd of drivers that came with the computer but I cannot use the cd drive.

 I don't know if it's useful, but itunes says I have a "D: TSSTcorp CD-RW   TS-H292B"

Please Help!!

(I have a dell dimension 9100 and windows xp)

Delete the drive in Device Manager and reboot. What happens now?

Just for grins do both. What is the PCI device? Is it named?

You do not need a disk of drivers. CD drivers are included in Windows.

Okay, I'll do both.

the PCI device is unnamed, and is under "other devices"

oh, and by delete do you mean literally click and press delete?

I am having somewhat of a similar problem, with the ! sign next to the device when youdouble click on that device and in the window that pops up there is a device status message, what does it say? Mine says
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

More info and start a new thread with your problem so it can be addressed properly...

Isn't it uninstall, not delete?

That was my question, because I only have uninstall and disable.

Same.
I assume he means uninstall, because that would make sense.
Go with uninstall, I'll take responsibility if that's not what GX means.
