Quote
You've encountered error message 8007F00D while using WMP, Additional
information is not currently available for this error.
Due to the recent problems i have been having with virus's is this just a coincidence.

it has got to be a virus-related problem. it seems as though windows cannot even give you a reason why it doesnt work. what other adverse effects have you encountered?

do a virus/spyware scan, make sure your comp is clean.

Thanks homer done all the scans computer seems to be clean,so i tried again,
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.5721.5145&id=8007f00d&contextid=10020&originalid=8007f00d
    This the message i get.
Did a google search on 8007f00d and came up with,
    http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLJ_enGB206&q=8007f00d,
So i don't think it is virus related and if somebody could decipher this and explain it in laymans terms(very simply) anybody willing

skyblue.......  I just had a thought , has your machine passed the WGA test , because that would cause WMP11 to fail during install.

      Yes thats ok
The problem stems from the problems i have been having with virus's over the past week or so,
on that side of things i managed to install prevx which was a tip from this forum and found several virus's .
      bszip.dll
      pedevps.dll
      pedev.exe
      uninst.exe
      wbsecsvc.exe
      rescanned clean
Also ran trend house call, clean
The computer is now running fine as far as i can make out except up to now i cant download wmp, until i come across something else that is.
I have been googling the error messages and it seems others have come across the same problem
and it seems i may have (0nly guessing) messed the package installer spupdsvc.exe  for wmp,but there again what do i know the answer maybe in the link below but i am not experienced enough to understand how it was done, i need guidance on how to carry it out.

skyblue....... I thought it was WMP 11 you were having the trouble with ?

When you had all the virus issues , did you run the scans from safe mode or normal .....

This doesn't sound good ......... Do you have your shiny XP cd if required ?

Hummm that's odd , when I click on that link , and select the version I want , it D/L version 10 ...... perhaps you didnt select the version you wanted .    And it's possible you need SP2 to get WMP10 .... I'll check .

EDIT: Your need SP2 for 10 as well

To see if you have it open My Computer and click Help / About Windows...this will tell you.
SP2 might also not DLoad properly if that laptop isn't passing WGA.

Unfortunately for lots of Windows problems fixing them requires a genuine XP CD.
