I can see myself getting shunned for this, but a couple of years ago, there was no way you would've been able to tear me away from Waterdeep.

I've played a lot of MMORPG's in my past and by far WoW is the best IMO. In fact it's too good. First MMORPG game I quit because it was too addicting and not just getting old.
Same thing happened with me and Conquer Online. Im surprised how addictive games can be these day, but I think thats what the people who made the games had in mind.

Waterdeep is the City of Splendors from the Forgotten Realms universe.  Although based on this city, the Waterdeep game doesn't really seem to actually have a lot of tie-in with the books.  I think it may simply be for aesthetic purposes.  But I've never read any of the books, so I don't know.  Anyway...it is (or was) a really popular text-based MUD that a few friends and I used to love playing back in high school.  But once we were no longer allowed to have Podrikev vampires (I know, the combination doesn't make any sense, but they were awesome), we pretty much abandoned the game.  But for being just a text adventure, it sure was expansive.  And after awhile, I didn't even notice that there weren't any pictures.

Text adventures are actually still pretty popular (to an extent).  Download a decent MUD client and you'll find tons of active games.  And Legend of the Green Dragon is fairly big at the moment, depending on the server that's hosting it.

WoW is a great game, but for some reason the cartoonish graphics frustrate me, and the game only kept me interested for about 3 months. I like Guild War's gameplay and grapics, and of course the free play is a bonus. I played Asherons Call Dark Majesty when I was younger, and found it extremely addictive, but I doubt it compared with mmorpgs these days.

WoW like i have stated before has ity merits, but it lacks in others, such as the price of subscription... that alone would make most people really think ' am i really going to commit to this?' this is because of if you say go on holiday or lose the use of the internet etc. and fail to either freeze or cancel your subscription, it continue paying 8, 16 or 24 pounds (sorry i do not know the American dollar conversion)

I belive WoW is a good game... but you need to weigh up the dedicatedness of the player Vs the Cost per month... are you really gonna play it that much?

It's cheaper if you pay by the year, it's about $50.
