Over the past ten years or so I have been able to navigate the increasingly complex world of computing, mostly on a personal level as the companies I have worked for have not been very computer literate(I am in horticulture). I' m reasonably adept and intelligent and moreover persistent when encountering the unknown. But this seemingly simple procedure of connecting two laptops together via ethernet, through a Linksys switch has me bamboozled.
I have attached the specs on the two Vaio laptops so I won't repeat if possible. Both currently access the internet through a Belkin router wirelessly. I'm quite a distance from the router, 1 floor up and through walls but performance has been acceptable for non-business, small file downloads, etc.
What I am trying to accomplish is the sharing of files between the two laptops that are physically close to each other in my room. I assumed (wrong) that connecting the two either directly with a crossover or through an ethernet switch would be a simple process. But noooooooooo. I just don't get it. Any advice would be appreciate. I've search all around the internet attempting to find a concise approach to this connection but all that I've seen lack the clarity that I require. Help!!!!
Hopefully I am providing enough detail on both computers that someone will see what I need to do.
Thanks in advance.
David
