A quick question about RAID
« on: February 05, 2007, 08:04:45 PM »
}{ey everybody!

I'm getting ready to switch my home file server over from using a single drive to a RAID array (too much valuable data sitting there without a safety net.)

Anyhoo, my question is does a RAID array have to use disks that have been especially "paired" for the job? In other words, manufactured to be part of a RAID array? Or, conversely, can I use ANY two disks of the same brand and model?

any two will do. i am sure that they do not need to be the same model either. as long as they are the same size.

      your welcome. :)

p.s. i dont know how much computer knowledge you have, but just an added note, in order to have a RAID array, you have to be using SATA harddrives.

Nope. RAID has been around alot longer than SATA...

my mistake then. i have only heard of RAID arrays being comprised of SATA drives. thank you for the correction.
