help, cant find files
« on: February 11, 2007, 01:34:39 PM »
somehow i have like 30 GB of random crap on my pc, that i cant find/never put on

ok, basically if i go into my computer local disk says "74.9 gb, 400 mb available" i click on it, program files has 10gb inside it, which i know is there/accounted for in games, documents and settings has 59 GB, all the rest have near nothing, so i go into documents/settings.
58.7 GB is all in my c:/documents and settings/Erik folder, but once inside the only folder with more than 50MB is my My documents folder, that has 24 GB, which i know i have/accounted for files

but, where did that 30GB go to? i recently reformatted like 2 weeks ago, and i should only have the 35GB of files i put on, but i have a mystery 30GB of files somewhere i cant find

i don't know how to find the files? i don't wanna format again =[ help!

-oh i have windows xp btw

Windows takes up space, too. Plus, all the hidden folders with system files... that'll add up to 30 GB real fast.

System restore also takes up space, as does the Indexing service.

If you have a 74G HDD with 400M available space it's time to do some housecleaning...i'm impressed that machine is still running.

Not only housecleaning, but another drive (working in tandem) might be good. :o

yea, but i deleted like 11 GB worth of data just hours before i got a system warning for haveing to low disk space, i then cleaned up enough to have 400 mb left after i never downloaded installed anything sence i deleted that.
also i know for a fact the other day i had about 30GB left when i installed a game it told me remaining disk space on c drive, game wouldnt load so i uninstalled. but i put nothing on my pc since then, and cant find where the files are from takeing up all that space
