You might want to check for other volume control's being set too low. It's easy to have several different sets of adjustments. As in speakers themselves, keyboard volume buttons, control panel/sounds&audio devices, sound card's program, or the player itself(WMP, WinAmp, Jukebox, etc)

Has it always been this way? If not, what has changed and when? Are you sure you are plugged into the correct port? Have you checked the settings in COntrol Panel for Sounds and Multimedia? In System does your sound card show up correctly and without exclamation marks?

More information could be helpful. Please see below.

I did check all the volume controls on the keyboard and the speakers and the computer itself and the media player i use to play the music. all of these are set to be playing much louder than they are at the moment. I have a dell dimension 3000, windows XP, and the only thing i can think of that i changed is i downloaded itunes because i just got an ipod. I got the ipod for christmas though and my computer has worked very well until recently on maybe thursday.

hockey5, have you checked that both the wave and cd volume sliders in your system control panel are turned up?

Sounds obvious, but it had me stumped for 2 days!!!  :-/

the strangest thing happened, i fell forward out of my bed and knocked my computer screen   forward along with my speakers and now they work again. i guess it must have just been a loose connection but i thought i checked it but thanks for the help.

Some solutions aren't nearly so obvious...i was just going to suggest trying this before you posted.

This one is definitely going into the Archives.
