    Lock the system?
    « on: February 14, 2007, 09:36:17 AM »
Is there a freeware download that will lock the system so it can't be used until I enter a password? I have seen Matrix but did not think it very secure. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Matrix???

What version of Windows are you running?  If Win XP, do you have a password on your user account?

There are many ways for locking down a system without additional software....more info as suggested and a slew of answers will be forthcoming.

Just press Windows key and L at the same time and if you have a password on your account, which you can set with user options, it will lock the computer for you. No additional programs are required. Come on, let's not make this more complicated than it needs to be.

That matrixlock application looks pretty good, I just grabbed it for myself.
I've always used Windows-L and just left it at that, but I'm a sucker for cool gimmicks like this.
Plus, I'm a huge Matrix fan.
        So there you go.

Question! Someone told me if computer is switched off and back on Matrixlock would no longer be locking the system. I presume the Win/L method is not open to that? (No, not tried it, don't want to switch computer off without shutting down properly in case it causes more problem!)

Windows-L will not continue to lock the system if the power is switched off, no.
