HELP with stepping processor
« on: February 19, 2007, 02:36:17 PM »
Hi, I am using a polycom viavideo camera with PVX software version 8.0.

The "show desktop" icon is greyed out. I have called polycom and they say since my computer has a X86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 1 Genuineintel 2998 Mhz processor that the "stepping"  is causing the PVX software to not detect adequate system requirements for the "show destop" feature to function correctly.

This is a desktop computer.

Is there any way to "deactivate" the stepping of the processor, allowing it to display full functionality to this software or anyone have another idea??

Thanks for any advice/help anyone can provide.

I seriously doubt you can alter the stepping properties of a CPU...

There is a way.
Set your power options (Control Panel --> Power) to Always On.
This will completely disable stepping, forcing the CPU to run at its full speed of 3GHz constantly.
Or, run a demanding application before the software you're having issues with, this will force the CPU to ramp up to full speed to cope, and then run the software, hopefully the CPU will not have stepped down again.
Hope this helps.
