Error concerning space, but I have 15 free GBs.
« on: February 21, 2007, 06:36:17 AM »
I'm trying to download a file, which was labeled at 2.46 GBs, and my C drive has about 15 free GBs. Whenever I try and torrent the file, it says i don't have enough free space on the drive.

What does this mean, and how can i free up the space on the drive?

More system information?

You might try the bittorrent.com help section.  In particular, I'd say the help article titled: Downloading: Error message "Not enough space on disk." might be useful, depending on your OS.  Here's a link.  >http://support.bittorrent.com/cgi-bin/bittorrent.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=65&p_created=1164154161&p_sid=CSP3rOui&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MiZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9MCZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWZyZWUgc3BhY2Ugb24gZHJpdmU*&p_li=&p_topview=1<

If you are using a FAT file system the maximum size an individual file can be is 2GB.

The following case my apply to you
If u have many downloads started, the space may not be allocated, however your torrent application predicts that you will indeed run out of space shortly

It could be a good thing that the torrent file will not DLoad.    ::)

If you are running Win98 you are using a FAT file system...to check which one right clik on C: in My Computer and select Properties...

yeah, checking properties, i definitely am using the FAT32 file system, which would explain my problems.

any ideas on what to do?

FAT (also known as FAT16) has the 2 gig. limit. FAT32 does not, so that doesn't explain it.

Ok, this time I tried downloading a 600MB file, and it wouldn't download, for the same reason. all that happens is I get an error in bitorrent that says there isn't enough space on the drive. and I'm positive that I'm sending them to my c: drive, which has much more than enough space.

    any ideas?
