jmiah15...... By any chance, did you D/L any office updates just prior to this issue starting ?

Microsoft Office Safe Mode allows you to safely use an Office or Office family program that has encountered certain startup problems. When a problem is detected at startup, Office either fixes the problem or isolates it, allowing the program to start successfully.

Could you try and install office on a differant pc to see if the problem is still there ? ( one that doesn't have office on it )

Do an uninstall...again  :P.  Then, try reinstalling into another directory other than the default.

Yes Mr. Alan,

I did as you advised me, but still doesn't work. The message I always get is:

Word failed to start correctly last time. Start Word in Safe Mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to sucessfully start the programme. Some function may be disabled in this Mode.

Do you want to start in Safe Mode.

Even though I press No" , cannot. I have to close Word after open first in Safe Mode cos my answer NO cannot close or do anything.

Help me please.Headache!!!!!
I dont want to format the PC is one issue.

Thanks a lot.

Check this out:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888950

Have you checked the event viewer for information?

"Hmmm ... okay, I stand corrected; I have never seen or heard that message
before.  But as for fixing it, let's try a time-honored test.  Search your
hard drive for all files named NORMAL.DOT and delete them, then reboot the
computer and try running Word again"

If that doesn't work:

"Probably the next best thing to try is a repair install.  If you pop the
Office XP CD back in, it should detect that Office is already installed and
offer to repair or reinstall.  Try the repair first.  Your documents won't
be touched by the reinstall or repair. "

"You could try a 'Detect and Repair' - Word\Help drop-down menu - should
'Repair' the whole Office installation and has to be worth a try.  Not sure
about Office 2002 but there *may* be other options in the 'Programs' menu. "

Try some of the above.  If none of those work, back up your stuff and do a clean install of the OS  :-[.  I know that's what you don't want to hear but sometimes that's the only way to fix a problem.

computer and try running Word again
Definitely try this.  Your NORMAL.DOT may be what's causing this problem. Uninstalling Word does not remove the NORMAL.DOT file.  Thus, if you uninstall Office and reinstall it, Word still uses the old NORMAL.DOT file as it's default template for a new document.  So, find your NORMAL.DOT and delete it.  The next time Word is started, it will create a new NORMAL.DOT file.

It's probably in "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dot" if you're using Windows XP and Windows is installed on drive C.  Substitute your actual username for username.

Exactly how did you use Search?  It should find the file.  Did you select My Computer as a starting point or something else?  Are you including sub-folders in your search?

No, you can't get NORMAL.dot from run command.

What version of Windows do you have?  When you installed Office, did you accept the default location for the install procedure to install Office?

Yes, It is Windows XP Home Edition. I did use the default install place and even use
different place as I was recommanded.
Looks like noone can give me what to do next.
Anymore please?

Thanks

Hopefully your help.

You need to find Normal.dot.  Period.  When you use Windows Search, begin with My Computer and include system folders, subfolders and hidden files and folders.
