I have an 80GB HD with 3 partitions 1(2GB),2(20GB),3(58GB). 1 is FAT, 2 is Win XP & 3 has all the files, everything worked fine. I put in a new primary HD & with the old drive as secondary, installed Linux on the primary & wrote a dual-boot loader. Although nothing should have been written to the Windows drive, something went wrong & damaged the MBR. When I try to boot into Windows I get "Error loading operating system". I tried "fixmbr" from Windows Recovery Console but no luck.
I know all the files are intact because I viewed them with Read NTFS, from a floppy. Also Read NTFS is telling me there is an "Invalid boot loader" on partition 1. Would a Repair Install work & if so how can I backup or clone the drive? I want to get the 80GB working as the only drive in the machine.
