stoppping at verifying pool data...possible mb

the dvd drive that was added was a liteon dvd rom drive with ATAPI/E-IDE interface 16x
 
the new hard drive is a western digital 160 gb ide drive  

I have talked to chat help and disconnected all drives  from the motherboard and still it is stopping at verifying pool data.

I can get into setup but the keyboard doesn't work so I can't reset cmos.  I have tried three different keyboards.

 Mini-Tower mATX Chassis w/250W PS SIS651 Motherboard     that is the motherboard that I have.  The person on chat said that I could try jumping it if I could find which ones to jump.  If anyone has any info on how to do that and which ones to do or can give me a link I would appreciate it.  I am going to keep searching on here and try to locate the manufacturer, it is a systemax computer.  

I really don't want to try to replace the motherboard unless that is the only way to fix it.  It is a nine yr. olds computer.  

I also did these things already:

I found the page on verifying dmi pool data
 
1. I reloaded windows and it didn't matter
2. I checked all connections and it didn't matter
3.  I made sure there were no disks in the drives and it didn't matter.
4.  I disconnected all cd/dvd/floppy drive and it didn't matter.
5.  I put in a new hard drive and it didn't matter
6.  If I go to the cmos set up page my keyboard don't work and I can't check anything

Instead of multiple posts about the same computer and it's issues, it is better to keep it all in one thread to prevent confusion to you AND us and get you some relevant help.

I tried both types of keyboards, I only have one usb keyboard but I used two different ps/2 keyboards with no luck.  I have also unhooked the cd/dvd drives and the hard drive from the motherboard and tried it and it still didn't work.

The reason I reposted it was I spoke to the live chat and they gave me several things to try and I looked up the page on the stopping at the veryfing pool data.  That helped me to narrow it down. Sorry if I upset or confused anyone.


The person on chat said the next thing to try would be to jumper the motherboard to try to reset it but I don't know how so that will be my next thing to research and learn.  If I am understanding correctly, my motherboard is most likely the problem and I need to find out how much they cost and if it is worth repairing this computer.  I was careful to only buy components that can also be used to upgrade another computer I have so that I wouldn't waste money if the bad puter couldn't be fixed.    

So as it stands today I am going to try to find info on jumping the motherboard and see if that works, if it doesn't, I am out of ideas other than replacing the motherboard or buying a new computer for my son.

I did the jumpers on the the motherboard and now it lets me use the keyboard briefly in the set up screen.  I can get in and selected restore default settings and it came up and asked y/n and I selected y but then the keyboard went dead again.

Any suggestions?

Shut down the computer. Plug in your original PS2 mouse and keyboard. Reboot and go into bios. You should find somewhere in the menus an entry to reset ESCD or reset configuration data (mine is under PNP/PCI menu). Disabled is the default setting. Change it to enabled. Save the setting and reboot.

I put the original keybaoard and mouse on there and mine also has the pnp/pci menu.  I got as far as opening that page but the keyboard locks up before I can change it to enable.

It did come up once with the windows logo then to a  blue screen that said that something was in a fatal loop and to restart it but then restarting just put me back to the verifying data pool page again.

I did notice that letting it sit for an hour increases the amount of time I have on the keyboard as compared to letting it set for 15 minutes, could something be overheating?

Indeed, something can be overheating. I would suspect the  PSU, but it could be that the CPU fan and heatsink need a good cleaning or the fan is not functioning properly.
