new computer missing 7 GB!!
« on: October 14, 2004, 10:16:07 AM »
Just bought a new computer with 80 MB, but the "my computer" windows shows 63 in C drive, and 10 in D.  Also, there is nothing in the D drive yet it says 9.38/10 GB remain.  C drive has 51.5/63 GB. I understand the C drive has programs installed and eats up the memory, but why starting off from 63 and not 70?  And so then, what is eating up .62 GB in the D drive??

I've heard the computer computes GBs in a different way which leads to this...

Any explanations?

Regaining computer hard disk drive space

That article may be of use.

What operating system is installed? If you use /Fdisk you may run into some strange Hard Disk Drive sizes if you donot properly use the tool.

It is not uncommon for larger Hard Disk Drives to miss a few Gigabytes.. It all has to do with sectors and the like, someone more experienced can tell you more about that.

Cheers guys, I'll do my best to clean up all the garbage on the computer.  Makes it tougher since it's all in Japanese though.  I kinda get the binary calculation thing, still just makes you feel ripped off though.
