If i understand correctly your router is wireless capable correct ? ?
In order to connect wirelessly with your machine you need a wireless NIC card. Does the Win98 machine have one ? ?

try going to the start menu and running "inetwiz" and click ok
select the LAN setting and "Next"
the automatic detect settings and "Next"
And "No" when the mail option is there.

Reopen IE and it should work.

It would help if you'd be more specific.  Things like your make/model of wireless adapter on the W98 machine, and what are the symptoms of the problem.
