Missing operating system
« on: March 21, 2007, 04:05:15 AM »
Hi

Help! please

I've got a laptop  packard bell igo 6204.
I needed to do a recovery, so as usual i used my recovery diskette and when it asked for the master cd 1 I insert it in but then it said " Invalid media type reading drive C /Abort, Retry or Fail".

I've tried again with a recovery cd but it does the same.

When I switch it on without any CD or Diskette in it, it comes with a black screen and "missing operating system" written.

Would you please help me  :'(

"invalid media reading drive C" means it cannot see the hard drive....has it become loose ? ?

Boot into the BIOS (you should see something come up when the computer boots, like..."Hit Del to enter BIOS"... or one of the "F" keys, or a key combination.  Look there to see if the hard drive is seen there.

PS - you'll have to use your arrow keys as you will have no mouse.

Sounds like you might have a physically defective hard drive and it will need to be replaced.

Before determining that, download diagnostic software from the manufacturers website.. Make certain the laptop is trying to boot from the HDD and not any other device (Such as a FDD)
