need help with usb modem
« on: March 29, 2007, 06:10:17 PM »
I recently purchased the usb720 broadband modem from verizon wireless. oddly enough, it connects to the internet and allows me to surf the internet fine, and isn't the least bit slow. However, when I try to download certain programs to my laptop like AIM, or try to connect to online games like WoW, it says I do not have a internet connection. I called the Technical support at Verizon, but to put it bluntly they were completely useless and didn't understand what the problem was at all. Anyone out there who might know how to remedy this problem? Thanks.

i believe it is ie 6, for some reason ie7 doesn't work. But I've tried setting exceptions and even turning off the firewall.

What internet security software are you using (if any)?

I have known NIS to cause this kind of problem in certain circumstances (particularly with websites that use javascript).

I would recommend ditching NIS in favour of AVG Antivirus, ZoneAlarm or Comodo personal firewall and Spybot Search and Destroy (all are free).
