Windows 2000 Pro boot problem...
« on: April 03, 2007, 12:03:43 PM »
Thanks in advance...
After reboot, makes it through the Windows screen with the bar at the bottom, then hangs on the next light blue screen (not blue screen of death) when the user/login prompt pops up. It wont pop up, stuck on blue, and same thing in safe mode.
Was using Spybot S&D earlier and found a few problem files. Upon next boot this started.
Cannot get into BIOS.
Could Spybot have deleted a wrong file essential to boot?
Thanks.

Ad-Aware and SpyBot both offer restore point features so if indeed you clipped an important registry key (or 10 or 20), they can be restored.

Or, can you just use System Restore

There is no system restore on W2kPro.  (Nice catch GX1-Man).

Why can't you get into the BIOS /  do you get an error message?

You may need to reinstall the OS.  :-[

Editing system files does nothing to the BIOS, it is on its own and can not be alterted unless you do so. No there is no hack programs out there to do it. By the time the OS boots and a file could write to it the computer treats the BIOS as Read-Only. So what happens when you try to get in bios?

I wasn't aware that Spybot S&D was written by the Government.
