windows me search files and folders is greyed out

I cannot search files and folders as they are greyed out. How can this be fixed.

go to tools/folder options/view/restore defaults...if not use system restore...if its enabled...or this command in msdos prompt...c:\windows scanreg/restore      spalsh screen answer yes and chose the last good cab file...it is only this you have a problem with?
