DVD Drive will only burn CDs
    « on: April 09, 2007, 07:02:02 PM »
I built my own computer a while back (Windows XP Professional SP2) but I just now realized that I can only burn data to CDs, not DVDs.  I ordered a Samsung DVD +/-  R/RW (model number TS-H542A).  I read the manual on http://www.samsung.com/Products/CDDVD_Writer/DVDRRW/CDDVD_Writer_DVDRRW_TS_H542A.htm and I installed the firmware and the drivers.  But, the website said that I needed to install Nero Express to write files to a DVD.  Does this mean that I have to buy additional software to burn files to a DVD?  Could Alcohol 120% work too, or do I have to get Nero?

    Please help!

You will need to have some sort of burning software. That is why you probably paid less than the retail box price. Nero is good, but there are some free options. Look in the FAQ section under Essential Software.
