Had trouble with hard drive on old computer. Put in a used hard drive monitor will not turn on. Monitor dislpays "not receiving signal". Put old hard drive back in getting same message. What am I doing wrong?

Flat ribbon cable installed backwards; red stripe faces power connector.

is the serial cable plugged in from the monitor to the pc unit?
