Windows Live Messenger
« on: April 18, 2007, 12:35:41 AM »
My Windows Live Messenger (WLM) won't log in, no matter what I try. Heres what happens:
  • I click the WLM button, which should load it up, but it doesn't load (or, sometimes, it does load, half an hour later)
  • Once the WLM loads up, I try to log in, but it never logs in. It says :Error Code 80072ee7, and it also says that my DNS and Key Ports aren't working
  • Sometimes it actual logs in, but then it says something like "WLM has encountered an unexplained error" or something, then closes it
I have Windows XP, AVG 7.5 and IE7

It's annoying when people use outdated versions of MSN because they can't receive offline messages, but MSN is too retarded to tell you someone has an outdated client..

I use GAIM.
As for your problem, reinstall it.
If that doesn't work, uninstall it, remove all folders related to it, and use CCleaner to clean the registry of entries related to it.
Then install it again.

I used to use Gaim, but somehow there's a bug which causes the program to crash on Windows XP SP2 professional. It happened on my own PC and on Windows XP SP 2 professional installations on school which has got me baffled..

Happens sometimes to me, but the latest beta release seems to make a difference.
It's actually Portable GAIM beta 5, because the full version of GAIM 1.5 (latest available at the time) refused to sign me into anything.

I like WLM because it can use Windows Live !Plus, which supports scripts, such as Screenshot Sender.

Oooooo.....

I just realized that !Plus might be the problem...
Do you think that that could be it?

Could be, I found that that sort of thing caused many problems when I used to use MSN Messenger.
Try uninstalling it and see if that helps.

Well, you know that two of his topics have been locked?

        Yeh, but your probably right.

On the actual topic now, I uninstalled Windows Live Messenger and reinstalled it, but it still isn't working.

By the way, I'm running a virus test (AVG) right now, but nothing has shown up yet.
        Any ideas?

Once my AVG virus test is finished, I'll try Windows Live again, and if that doesn't work, I'll try MSN 7.5.

        I'll keep you posted.

My AVG test finished: no viruses.
I uninstalled Windows Live and reinstalled it, but it didn't work. I'll try MSN 7.5, and if that doesn't work, I have a bigger problem.

Some more info on the topic:
When I try to load up WLM, it shows up on Task Manager, but not on my screen.

You should know by now that the answer is usually a google away.
