aggressive pop-ups
« on: April 18, 2007, 06:53:23 AM »
hi everyone my name is michael
i have just recently bought a computer 2nd hand and have windows xp sp2 installed and all updates installed
my computer is a 2.39ghz dell with 512mb of ram

now my problem is i get these agressive pop ups that will close my internet browser and pop up instead and make me loose the page i was looking at
and says i must install a antivirus program and if i click on the red x in the corner it says its trying to download to my computer but my pop up blocker blocks it

I have run:   cc cleaner
                    rouge remover 1.16
AVG antivirus scan with all updates
pest patrol scan with all updates
my windows firewall is turned on
I also have zero ads popup blocker running when these come up

the popups also look like they are windows updates but i dont think windows would send me something this aggressive/pushy

any help is greatly appreciated

Use Mozilla Firefox, not Internet Explorer.

What do the pop-ups say?

Actually, Microsoft will.

Spyware, not Microsoft related.

Get Adaware SE, Spybot S&D and Windows Defender. Scan in safe mode.

Probably a pseudo for some malicious piece of spyware, everything those programs find are hostile and should be removed. If you can not remove them, you're most likely not scanning from safe mode.

Before Windows loads, press F8 and choose Safe Mode from the list.

I had pop-ups that looked like W-updates, and I said I was suspious of them,

but there were no comments from the gallery as to it possibly being

malicious. If I can find it, I shall post, and have time.

Oh and, . . .
BTW, . . about all these updates and automatic etc. can I take a discription of them from A/R, then take it to MSQ, and find out exactly what it is suppose to be for or possibly doing ?

 ???

P.S.

I think I'll change my users name to Post-Toasties.
