jackpot, after some exstensive research that is the version I pick looked like a good learning curve.  So that is why I am a little confused because it told me that a screen would pop asking what language i wanted and I would be able to go from there.  But if that was the case it would have been way to easy for my first linux install. Only one thing to do and that is keep trouble shooting.

I would imagine if the ISO you downloaded contained .bat and .exe files then it isnt a Linux install CD. You've succeeded at making a bootable DOS CD.

If you type VER at the prompt, and you see FreeDOS mentioned, I think I can guess what happened...

You could also visit Ubuntu's site and order their CD's...they will ship you up to 10 copies of their latest.

It comes with a live CD that you can just run from the CD and a full installation CD that's bootable as well...

    Very Handy.

What is the web page, what is the file name, and how are you burning it?

Why are you not trying this method ? ?

I give up, I haven't got a clue as to what the OP is trying to do here.. I've never seen anyone make such a problem out of unpacking/burning an image to a CD and then boot from it..

What he found out, but hasn't told us, is that he had burned a bootable data disk, not the iso image. wwbmu.exe is a German partitioning tool for DOS. That's the clue. Google for it and you will see just how many people make this mistake.

With 3 day shipping he would have had his Ubuntu CD's by now...

          And they are FREE.

Did you burn the ISO with Nero or some other burning program? If you just copy the ISO file you downloaded to a CD that is not bootable.

          From six days ago.

ok sorry folk that i have left some of you lost i am in the process of doing a lot of things and trying to learn HTML, XHTML, Java script and some other things.  So here is an update.  Went to the web page the gave directions and link to a program that i burned the iso image on and it works the os started to load.  but i soon discovered that it was just way to much for my machine to handle.  I put it in my new machine and it booted just fine.  Tried to install it and got past the first step and i swear to god there was no way what so ever to move to the next step.   Any one my old machine is an Old IBM Aptiva  386 probably or maybe if i am lucky 486, but my goal is to use this machine to host a simple web site.  So does anyone know of a small, well balanced, stable linux version that i could run and learn from for my old IBM?

A 386 and how much RAM (he cringed) and how big a hard drive?

I think you CAN, but it will not have X Windows, only command line and that can be quite a steep learning curve.

By limiting yourself with this machine you may have an unpleasant experience which is not necessary.
