All of a sudden no sound
    « on: May 05, 2007, 06:18:59 PM »
I had sound a few days ago. The local computer place installed a CD/DVD player because I was having problems with it. Anyways no I have no sound and have checked multiple speakers. Where should I start?

We'll need a bit more info.

    What's your OS?
What's the make/model of your computer and sound card?
The drivers may have been deleted somehow.  Did you try reinstalling them?

Right click on My Computer and go to Properties.  Click on the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button.  Do you see anything in the list with a yellow question mark or exclamation point?

Also, open up your Control Panel and go to Sounds And Audio Devices.  Click on the Audio tab.  Is your sound card selected?

Go back to the "local computer place" ask them"Where's my
    sound"?

It's XP on a AMD athlon XP 2400. The sound card is a creative sound blaster Audigy SE. I couldn't find the CD but I did download the drivers from the website. There are no question or exclamation marks. And the sound blaster is listed as the default. Let me know what you think. Thanks

The most common cause is plugging speakers into the wrong port.

We still don't even know what motherboard this is. If it has onboard sound also, this needs to be disabled. Perhaps they monkeyed with the BIOS settings?

It might be your best bet to give them a call and ask them about it.  Just a simple "Hey, you guys installed CD/DVD on my computer and now my sound doesn't work."  They might be willing to help you out.  After all, it did seem to happen on their watch.
