That falls under web surfing and word processing in my book..

Eh, not in my book.  I'd say web surfing and word processing clearly implies two things, two applications being open, a browser and a word processor, not an email client or spreadsheet or PDF reader.

I've always used it as a general term for anything that doesn't require the use of memory intensive programs such as Photoshop or 3D applications.
