MS Word 2002 v10 crash when copying and pasting
« on: May 03, 2007, 02:21:09 PM »
Hello,everyone

I'm editing an important essay  on my computer and unfortunately its crashing at the worst and most unexpected time.Occassionally I can copy and paste a paragraph  and everything works.(I now have a tendency to press save after everything I do) Then suddenly I try to paste something I get an eggtimer and then it all locks up.It also crashes when I try to press the close button of the program.

I thought it could be

1) Corrupted text format/some text from the internet messing the format up
2)  A virus
3)Word is corrupted

Weirdly in the format box there's a  style I haven't seen before
labelled
'Footnote text Char Char Char Char' w/ an unterlined a at the end

Any suggestions

Thankyou

Well, what protection are you using for viruses?

Yes, you could have a corrupt Normal.dot file.  So, I recommend following the procedure here to fix Normal.dot  .

I have AVG 7.5 Free edition updated regularly

I tried the troubleshooting guide you mentioned and still the problem is persisting :'(

So, you found Normal.dot, deleted or renamed it, restarted Word, and no change?  Is that right?

Close Word, then download, install, and run CCleaner.  For some tips on setting it up, see http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1149558249

Did that help?  Do you have your Office CD?  Do you have your Windows CD?  How are other Office apps (Excel, Outlook, etc.) working?  Any problems with non-Office apps?

Sorry for the late reply, everything seemed ok with the file on thursday. It didn't crash once,I ran the ccleaner and my virus checker found a new trojan hiding in my documents folder. But Word only seemed cured after I rebooted the computer.Perhaps one of the clean up did the trick?

Thanks for this assistance

 :)
