Sound out of only 1 speaker
« on: May 06, 2007, 11:13:42 AM »
This is my first post and hope someone can help.    Only one of my speakers is working.  They worked fine all this time, then all of a sudden, only the right one worked.  I tried going to the control panel to check on the balance, but the option for PC Speaker Balance is locked or something, because I can't move the bar (it's like that option is 'grayed out'.)   So for a lack of any other good idea, I unplugged the speaker wire from the back of my computer, then plugged it back in.  After doing that, the Left speaker now works and the right one doesn't!    :o   Can anyone offer some suggestions???  Thank you!

Bad connection. Toy with it a little. Twist it back and forth. Slide it in and out a few times (slowly).

Thanks for the welcome!  OS is Windows XP home edition....sorry, as far as sound card and driver I haven't a clue.  (Is there an easy way to find this out?)

Try the speakers on a known working machine to eliminate the possibility that the fault is in the speakers themselves...

I suspect the speakers.  Like patio said, try them on another computer.  And while you're at it, try another set of speakers on your own computer and report back with your findings.

OK.  I turn my computer on this morning (like many other mornings) and guess what !?!!!!!  BOTH speakers are performing to the max!   :D    I have to tell you...as each day goes by, I'm more confounded by computers!  But now I have found a group of people here who can offer some advice and help.  I want to thank you all for your replies and suggestions--you're GREAT!  Thanks again!   ;)

Glad to hear they're working again.  But you might want to keep an eye on those speakers and how they're connected.
