My computer try,s to load an unwanted program on start up
« on: May 06, 2007, 06:56:41 AM »
my machine has Xp home with  service pack two installed, the problem is that every time I start my machine it try,s to install photo Gallery, on start up. I do not have the program in any shape or form (I do not need it as I already have a good photo editing software) so I cannot install the program and then remove it useing normal means, i have read some ware that this should be done through the  registry but I am not sure how to go about it .

What protection do you have?  When was the last time you did a scan?
Is this program in your Add/Remove Programs list?
Go to Start > Run > msconfig and click on the Startup tab.  Is the program listed there?

What's the exact name of this program?  Does it display the vendor's name?

Thanks for you repply, I have done a couple of scans recently but to no avail the program is as far as I know  by microsoft, my computer comes up with small windows saying that windows is  being configured for photo gallery, and unfortunatly  it was not listed in msc.

DLoad and install a nice little program called Startup CPl by Mike Lin.

It puts a Startup entry inside Control Panel and enables you to change what loads at startup.

Very handy. He's been around for some time and written some fine little apps...
