    Need help with NTLDR
    « on: May 14, 2007, 09:58:04 AM »
I turned off my computer before bed last night.  When I turned it on this morning it came up with this:

    NTLDR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I tried restarting it, and it kept coming up with that.  I looked on the microsoft website and it said that I needed the boot disk.  Well.... I never got one when I bought my computer.  The only that I got was the certificate of authenticity for the microsoft office and the little booklet saying where everything is on the modem.

Anyways.... I have a second computer in my house (which is what I am on now), and I was trying to create a boot disk off of the microsoft website.  However, there are a couple problems.  First off, and I'm not sure how much this really matters, but, my computer runs off of Windows XP Media Center, and my second computer runs on Windows XP Professional.  I tried to find the files that are needed for the boot disk (Ntldr and the Ntdetect.com), but I can't find them.  Secondly, the tutoral for creating the boot disk is for creating a floppy disk.  My second computer has a floppy drive, but the computer that I am trying to repair does not.  I'm not exactly sure what to do.

If anyone knows what I should do, please, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Anje

I'll tell you as much as I know.  I don't really know a lot about it, I just got it a few months ago.....

Anyways, its a Sony VGCRB60G, and the model is PCV-C51L

Um....Let's see, I only downloaded two things yesterday (Kazaa and Bittorant), which I unintalled a little after downloading them.

As for the protections, I have a anti-spam and antivirus program, but I cannot remember for the life in me what it is called, but it automatically runs in the background, and then I manually have it scan my computer about once a week.  I also have a program called ccleaner that I use on a regular basis and it cleans out my cookies and catch, and stuff like that...

I wish I could tell you more......

Also, I've already been the page that you linked, but it still doesn't seem to help much.  I can't do anything if I can't find the files on this computer...

maybe norton or MacaFee or Pc-cilin

torrent downloaders are bad. they boost your chances of getting infected.

does it go right to that screen when you turn your computer on??

No, its not a antivirus program that has a big name like norton or anything like that....

I downloaded the bittorent last night and I opened it, decided that I didn't want it and took it right back off....

Yes, it just goes straight to that screen.  I've pushed ctrl+alt+del and it just goes back to that screen.  I've tried pushing escape, the F keys, still the same....  I've tried manually turning it off, waiting a little bit then turning it back on....still goes to that screen.....

                  It was either:

PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition 3.1

                  or

                  AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.467

I'm pretty sure its the first one....

no they didn't give me one.  I asked about one, and I was told that they quit giving them out with the computers. It's completly retarded because what do they expect me to do when something like this happens?

try doing a system recovery if the computer came with the program f10 or f11 with the computer starts.

but be warned you will lose any important documents

Okay, I got it to go to the system recovery page, but I haven't done anything yet.  Before I go ahead and continue, is this the only choice that I have?  I don't want to erase everything if there is a way around it.
