    dellnet---dellmail
    « on: May 15, 2007, 10:24:59 AM »
    Hi!
My problem is I have dellmail as my email.
For the past 4 or 5 days I couldn't get in.
Keeps coming up (page cannot be displayed.)
Is there anyway I could find out if the site shut down or a problem exits?
    Site is dellnet.com
    Thank-You

dellnet.com appears to be definitely out of commission, although I have no way of knowing if that's permanent.  The site wouldn't come up for me so I tried pinging it and that indicated no communication with the dellnet server.  Here's the ping results:

    F:\>ping www.dellnet.com

Pinging money.msn.ca [207.68.172.246] with 32 bytes of data:

    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 207.68.172.246:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

Looks like it's time to setup a new email account.   ;)

What about your ISP?  Most of them provide email accounts as part of their service.  Or, you might use one of the popular web-based email services such as Hotmail or Gmail  or Yahoo mail

My son has used Hotmail for several years and seems satisified with it.  My main email account is through my ISP, EarthLink, although I do have a Yahoo Mail account.  I haven't used Yahoo Mail much because it came about as a result of installing Yahoo Messenger to use their PC-to-phone service.  But, based on what I've seen, it seems fine.

I have a ISP email, but that got so much spam on it,
I use it for spam mail.
I also have a Yahoo mail, thats also getting spam.
Was thinking if my dellmail doesn,t work anymore,
        to switch to Gmail.
        I use Google alot.

Does your ISP have a spam blocking feature you could be using?  When I first started using Earthlink, I was not aware of their spamBlocker.  Once I learned of it's existence and started using it, I found it very effective in controlling spam.

It does have a spam blocker.
It gets a spamtagptd. on the spam.
But for some reason it only tags some of the spam.

          What is spamtagptd?

One of the key features I have with Earthlink is an online address book.  With spamBlocker set at the highest level of stringency, no mail comes through to my Inbox  unless the sender's address is in my online address book.  Does your ISP have an online address book?

            Does have a address book.
I have to see if the spam email that goes though,
if I can block those address each time.

              Hi,
I tried all the numbers listed with no results.
I did get this email number for the dellmail site.
We have been going back and forth with emails for about a week or more.
              As of yet, no luck.
This is the latest email I got, I don't understand how to do it.
              Thanks,
              John

              Dear Member,

We have examined our servers and we are not able to find any problems
with them. Please open up a command/dos window and execute the
              following
commands 1 at a time. Let us know what results you see:

              tracert www.dellmail.com
              telnet www.dellmail.com 80
              telnet www53.wr.outblaze.com 80
              telnet 205.158.62.31 80

Please tell us exactly what each command is returning as this will help
              us in
diagnosing the problem. The problem is somewhere within your network,
              but we
are not certain where until we get some more information.

Hmmm, I see you're still fooling around with dellnet.com.  Being in New Jersey, I'd bet you have numerous options for other ISPs.  I'd be looking around.

Now, to run the tests they advised, go to Start, Run and enter cmd in the Open box.  Then, enter tracert www.dellmail.com at the "command prompt", or right after the > symbol.  It will execute.  You can capture the results to copy and send to them by clicking on the C:\ characters in a small black box the upper left corner of the command screen.  You'll see some options under the Edit menu.  Here's a screen print of what you should see before hitting Enter to run the test:

Note: you'll probably see C instead of F for the drive letter.

Same procedure for the other commands they asked you to run.

I think you should also run the ping test I mentioned in a previous post and tell them about that.  I ran it again and still get the same results, a failed test.

Only reason I'm still fooling around with dellmail,
is to check my email that I haven't been able to check
                for the past two weeks.
                I did your suggestions and came up with;
30 hops which most was timed out on first one.
                Last 3 was connect failed,
                Couldn't open a connection.
                Thanks,
                John

With the info I sent them from ms/dos, they were able to get back to me,
suggesting it was a firewall or router problem.
                    I don't have a firewall but I do have a router.
I reset the router for about 45 seconds,
and than disconnected the power cord for about 15 seconds,
                    Tried it and it worked.
Both Dellnet and Dellmail I can now access.
But I am still looking into a new email.
Thanks for all your help and time spent on this matter.
                    Thank-You,
