Well we're going to need some information, like what brand is the memory stick?Usb 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0 ports? Has it ever worked? If you go My computer, then properties, then hardware, and then to device manager are there any question marks or exclamation marks next to anything? Have you tried the memory stick in another computer? Also, does your computer have sp2 installed?

Is it seen on other machines ? ?
Is there any data on it ? ?
Have you tried powering down, re-booting without it and then power down again and plug it in...This usually works.

If not go into Control Panel and find the listings of all your USB roots and hubs...right click each one of them and select remove. You will get a warning ...ignore it.

Then re-boot and Windows will automatically re-install your USB drivers.

p.s. is this plugged into the front of the machine ? ?If so do any other devices work in there ? ?

My question is: are other USB devices (drives specifically) recognized on this computer?  It could be that you just need to download some drivers.  "LG" doesn't tell us a whole lot...do you have the model number by any chance?

All I can find on the stick is the brand. It is 1 Gb USB Drive. I checked the device manager and click on every USB Hub, drive, etc., and all of them say that that device is working fine. I plugged the memory stick and checked the manager, It recognizes the device, but still I can't open it or do anything with it. I clicked on that icon at the bottom bar to unpluged. Then before I umplagued ther is a yellow circlo with the exclamation sign nexto to the device in the device manager. I unplugged when I was told I could do so.

Still I can't open it in this computer. I use other ones at home and I don't have problems there.

            Thanks

What was the results of my suggestions ? ?
            Still the same ?

If so copy any data on there that you need and then re-boot with the stick in....
Right click My Computer and select Manage. Then choose disk management, find the stick, right clik it and select format...this will wipe any data but should get your machine to now recognise it.
