I've just gone back through this thread and think I should give you all a "heads up".

In the first post you will see images attached. One of them tells you that WinAntiVirus was on the machine. Although it seems simshi993052 has fixed it all with a full reformat/reinstall you should always be careful to watch out for this one.

WinAntiVirus is a definite baddie and usually requires specific removal procedures.

It seems this was overlooked in the early replies to post #1.

This is just a observation for future reference as WinAntiVirus is a pretty common infection these days. We just need to keep our eyes peeled for the tell-tale signs ....

The thing is that WinAntiVirus is a member of the Smitfraud family of malware along with Pest Capture, Virtual Maid, Quicknavigate, Generic "Zlob", SpyAxe, SpySheriff, SpywareQuake and other nasty pieces of work. The only thing that usually fixes a full WinAntiVirus infection is smitfraudfix and, even then, not always.

Nice catch, oddjob!  I got the WinAntiVirus mixed up with the Messenger Service pop-ups that were in the screenshot.  Kudos to you on this one.
