Turn it off.

Without more info we would just be guessing...

OK, if we are just going to guess randomly, I would say heat sensor. Have you checked your fans?

Reset your BIOS to defaults.

Possible IRQ conflict:Change the sound card
 to another slot.

I went fishing once and the boat broke down. We were stranded for like 5 hours before we got someone to tow us to shore.
Perhaps that's what happened to him...

A bad capacitor can emit a screeching sound, but not for long.  You probably don't have any capacitors big enough to do that.

CPU fan, system speaker, power supply fan, other fans if present, should be checked.
Also, it could be the hard drive creating the screech; bearings, or head to platter contact. If it is the power supply fan, replace the power supply.

The CPU fan is the only item I can imagine screeching on the MoBo, unless you have an AGP card with its own cooling fans.

I would be interested to hear what you discover.  I will bookmark this page.

I wouldn't bother bookmarking it, because most OPs usually don't come back to supply more information.

Perhaps the screeching was a baby pterodactyl and they lived happily ever after.

Or it ate his face.

I wonder if it was the motherboard screeching...

BTW, why is this in Drivers?

Who cares :P

Perhaps the motherboard is alive and is being shocked by the electric current and is yelling in pain

Well, the motherboard must be female then, because I haven't heard many males screeching  :P

Well, should we close down this topic now, or wait a few days to see if the OP returns?

If the OP don't return do we get caught forever

in the dreaded Giggle-Loop ? ???

I am still waiting on OP's to respond.

The oldest post is from late  November2006.
Is there still hope?
