Autoexec.bat - missing
« on: October 27, 2004, 07:01:22 AM »
Autoexec.bat is missing in my system (Win98).  When I edit it thru msconfig and restart the computer its again missing.  Then I came to know the problem is with Wincomm, which is deleting my Autoexec.bat.  In Program Files, there is a folder called Wincomm. I tried to delete it, but access is denied because its in use. So, I did ctl alt delete, and under processes there was Wincomm.exe and Winlock.exe. I tried ending the processes but they keep re-appearing on the list of processes.  Any way to get rid of this?  Pls help me to bring my Autoexec.bat back.

You've got an internet worm and virus.  Scan and delete.  Your anti-virus program is not up-to-date.

:DThanks for ur information.  Finally found out it was due to a virus, which installed a wincomm.exe file and winlock.exe files by itself and deleted my autoexec.bat.  I deleted it from Program files.

You should use a virus scanner.
