Change Home Page Box, URL keeps showing up
« on: May 28, 2007, 10:51:36 PM »
Hey, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to fix this:  Say I'm trying to change my home page for IE6.  If I clear my current home page's URL so that the dialog box is blank, and if I type in h (for http), there is this one web page that keeps coming up in a drop down menu...that is, right after I type in "h", a drop down menu (it's not a drop down menu but it's like the suggestions box that you can resize, say you go to google.com and when you type something in the search box, your previous search entries are shown in a drop down menu...that's what this is) comes up with this URL.  I cleared the history and everything, but this URL keeps coming up.  I can successfully change my home page so that's not the issue.  I just want to delete this stupid URL from coming up in the "suggestions" drop down menu.  Any help?  Thanks!!

What version of Windows do you have?
What protection do you have on that computer?

EDIT:  Silly me, I totally misread your post.  Follow the below post by dl65 and let us know how that works for you.

baller ...... Have you tried turning off the auto-complete feature.
    Open Internet Explorer.
Choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
    Click the Content tab.
    Click the AutoComplete button.
Click to remove checkmarks from these items:
    Web addresses
    Forms
User names and passwords on forms
    Prompt me to save passwords
    Click the Clear Forms button.
    Click the Clear Passwords button.
    Click OK.

Give that try and let us know if the issue goes away.

Hey one quick thing though...I like AutoComplete on when using IE just cause if I want to go to a certain webpage I've already visited, I can just type like www.ya and yahoo.com will come up...but, after I turned AutoComplete back on for web addresses, that same page keeps being shown in the change home page box.  I've figured this out, that when you type in "h" for http in that box, it pretty much just shows you your history and so, it lists the URLs you've visited.  I haven't visited this URL that keeps coming up even if I clear my history (it's always there pretty much).  So, for that, I'd rather keep AutoComplete on, but since the url keeps showing up, I think it might be another problem.  Anything?  By the way, the url is "http://www.imagehigh.com" and I never even went there.

baller .........  As a workaround on the auto complete issue , you could always, leave auto-complete turned off and put the sites you visit into your favourites.

That site you mentioned that you have never been to is a hosting site .....
perhaps you should post a hijackthis log here and we can see if its there and fix it .

baller you can also not use the "h" as it's not neccessary...for example if you try just starting to type "Comput....for Computer Hope it will show up anyways.

baller .......Your log looks ok ...except your java should be updated when you get a minute.
I would d/l ccleaner if you don't have it. Get it at ....... http://ccleaner.com/
when you install it ...Do not install the optional Yahoo toolbar.
Once installed , run the cleaner part and delete anything it finds .
Once the cleaner has finished , click the issues icon and scan for issues, fix anything found. Now go back and see if that site is still showing up .

dl65, I did what you said and right after I used CCleaner, I checked and it's still showing up.  I attached a screenshot of what's happening so is there anything else to try?  Thanks for helping so far!
