    Style Sheet Link Trouble
    « on: May 30, 2007, 05:18:35 PM »
    I'm having trouble with my style sheet on my website, iceglob.110mb.com. At first view the main page (linked to a style sheet) works fine, but when I click on "LINKS" (which is also also linked to the style sheet), all the formatting on the sytle sheet disappears ???! I stays gone even when I go back to the main page. Only when I click Refresh does the formatting appear again. I cannot figure this out. Does anyone know what the problem is? (I'm running XP with IE7).

    I'd love to help, but my ISP is currently being blocked by 110mb...

    If you can supply me with the code from the home page and the page in question...I'll take a look at it and see if there is any advice I may be able to offer.

    Works fine for me with IE7 and FF2.
    As Saviour said, a copy of your code would help.
    Oh, IE7 looks a little different from FF2, but that's because IE sucks.

    Works fine for me on IE6.  Perhaps you just need to clear out your Temporary Internet Files.

      Okay I am attaching the .css file and the two .html files that link to each other (one is /index.html and one is /links/index.html).

      EDIT: It's didn't let me attach .css or .html files, so I ziped them. One file contains index.css and index.html, and the other contains index.html for the links directory on my website.

      Even though I can't get to your site, I have checked the code...and checked it with Dreamweaver for errors...none found.

      The preview works fine for both page codes.

      Maybe you should clear your temporary internet files like CBMatt recommended.

        I'm just worried that it might happen on other people's computers too, and I don't want my site to look ugly.

        Actually, I asked a friend to go to my website and she said it did the same thing on her comp.  ???

        But...did clearing the temporary files fix it on your end?

        You've had two users here say the pages display fine.  I have Comcast and 110mb seems to be blocking us from seeing any of their pages.

        So...did you clear your cache and then look at the pages again?

        Did your friend view your site before you made these changes?  Sometimes, people's browsers just don't want to load a site properly because of their TIF.  Happens to me all the time with PhotoBucket.

        Why do you have two index.html files?
        How about calling one index.html and the other links.html?
        And just ty clearing your temp. files, if it helps than that's the issue.

          I have two index.html files because one is under the /links/ directory. There are going to be multiple pages under that directory, so I do not want just a links.html page.

          Okay I just cleaned my temp IE files, and I still have the same problem. For some reason the browser is not catching the link to the style sheet.  ???

          Then try putting your stylesheet in the links directory as well and then change the path on your links page relative to the new location of the additional stylesheet.

            Maybe I should've mentioned that I've already tryed that, and it didn't work.

            Then rename the main links page to links_main.html instead of index.html.  Subsequent link pages you'll name accordingly.

              Code on your home index page:

              <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://iceglob.110mb.com/index.css">

              Code of your links index page:

              <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://iceglob.110mb.com/index.css">

              Copy your stylesheet to the root of your links directory.

              Change code on your links index page to:

              <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://iceglob.110mb.com/xxxx/index.css">

              Note the red text is the name of your links directory.

                I tryed that before. I'm going to look up CSS code later to check if I did something wrong. Thanks anyway :). This forum is great!

                I know this is a big bump, but I just wanted to sort of answer this question.  Although I don't really have any REAL knowledge about why this would be helpful, I can tell you this: having two files named the exact same thing, especially such an important name like index.html is a pretty bad idea.  It shouldn't have any bearing on how your CSS displays, but the only file named index.html should be your home page.

                It's mainly just to avoid confusion.  If you have several different pages with similar names, it's easy to get them mixed up.

                  Yeah but it's easier for people to type in xxx.xxx.com/links, rather than xxx.xxx.com/mail_links.html. Like at this site (when on a computer that's not my own), all I have to do is type in www.computerhope.com/forum.
