I wouldn't recommend playing World of Warcraft with only 256 MB of RAM. I'd have at least a 1 GB for that.

Here are a few that may work good according to your specs:
    http://www.playrelax.com/RPG-games/RPG-games.php - A few RPG games
    http://www.guildwars.com - Guild Wars
    http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=343447&Pn=Best_of_Games_RPG - A few more

Upgrade your RAM, XP will not be happy with 256Mb, let alone games.
If you're into games, consider either a few upgrades or an entirely new PC.
I realise that may not be an option right now, but no modern games will work on that setup.

Aside from that, I highly recommend the Command&Conquer series (not the latest one though, it's too demanding).
Also, how about the old Unreal and Unreal Tournament games? (Not the 04 version, too demanding)
    They were pretty good.
Halo PC might be worth a look too.
I realise most of those are shooters, I play FPS games mostly and no RPGs.
Just a few suggestions for you anyway.

crucial.com is all you need for RAM.
Besides, that's only the first issue, to play modern games you'll also need a better GPU.

Sure, why not, I'll add you now I guess.
It's odd that Crucial had nothing for you.

Battlefield 1942 might work okay on low settings. Halo probably isn't a good idea to try, it seems like its graphics engine is inefficient and needs more horsepower than you would expect. Counter-Strike will definately work quite well on that setup. For strategy you could try Warcraft III or Age of Mythology. I don't play RPG's much..... Diablo II maybe?

Halo isn't well optimized, true, but the min. requirements are a 32Mb card, GeForce 2 class.
That may be a bit optimistic, but consider double that (GeForce 4, 64Mb) as minimum, then consider his card (Radeon 9250, 128Mb).
Then consider 1.25Gb of RAM which he now has.
I think he should be able to run it on medium settings fairly well.
    Oh, and what about Starcraft?

Starcraft should work. About Halo, It lagged on my old computer at 1024X768 with everything on low and textures on high. The computer had XP, 768 RAM, Celeron 2.4, GeForce FX 5200 128 MB. I never tried any tweaks though...

The 9250 is slightly more powerful than your 5200, and he has more RAM.
A slower CPU might affect performance a little though, but probably not all that much.

Try Diablo 2. This is a great game, and it would run good on your PC.

I'd upgrade the processor. Celerons aren't known to be too fast. I honestly didn't realize how many games they could handle until I read this thread. But that's my 2 cents worth.
If you hear beans rattling....... that means I'm thinking.

I upgraded my video card to a Radeon x-1300, and increased my Ram. Have you tried call of Duty 2 for pc? Excellent! and addictive.

Just to let everyone know, the original poster has since left Computer Hope.
I've been advising him over IM about upgrades, and it's all taken care of.

WoW would be unbarable with 256 of ram ummmm 512 it would work but be very laggy 1gig is definatly what you want and even then if the rest of your comp isnt up to par then it will still be kinda laggy expecially in shattrath city. I suggest upgrading a computer because WoW is one of the least demanding games out there and it sounds like your comp wouldn't run it. You can get some nice ones for not a bad price or even build one yourself but I don't suggest that if your not computer savy or have someone that knows a lot about computers that oyu trust.

Again, I would upgrade RAM and your video card, but if you're looking for an online game and can play at your low specs you might try this one:

This topic is very old now and the computer in question was upgraded.
              I'm locking it.
