Socket 370 covers a lot of cpu's what is your present
one your using?

You have PPGA, FC-PGA, and FC-PGA2.

Give us some information on what your doing.

If you presently have a CPU it should have an
sSpecs Number on it.

See the below picture as an example. SL4PC

Ok,its a socket 7,im sure of it(hopefully)

I think the metal part thats blocking the processor chip thingy is the
heatsink?

Ok then,I was just now recently watching a video on what happens to a processor without a heatsink(while the powers on) ,they showed the one I have and the chip melted!Ouch!

I plan on buying a Pentium ll 300+ MHz processor.Am I suppose to remove the whole heatsink and processor together?

No,you remove the heatsink then the processor/CPU.

The CPU should line up in place and be locked down by a slim
locking lever.

Read the below site.

According to the specs of your m-board 66,100,and133mhz
cpus work so,without a risk you should be able to get a
SL4C8 (Intel Pentium III) 1 GHZ.When you buy the Cpu
get it with heatsink and fan.

A 32 mb graphics card should be all you need.I did not
see if you needed standard ,or low profile card.
PCI/or AGP. Mkae sure you get the right one someone will
post it.I must now leave for work.....Bwahahaha!

A Pentium II is a Slot 1 Processor which will not fit in a socket 370 or a SOcket 7 slot.

Are you sure you are up to this?

Are you sure?Remember I said I have a socket 7,so I dont want to make any mistakes
when buying a processor. Also any pentium lll listed only has socket 370 and Slot 1.Also,

AMD K6 and K6-2 uses socket 7,is this true?

I truly can't teach you what I have learned upgrading computers
 in 1 post.

Did you read the Gateway E-1600 Manual?
