Which Cpu is better in my situation

I'm jsut buying a new computer and there is two different models I can get.
1.Has a Intel x6800 2.93Ghz CPU for $2,182(CAN)
that comes with motherboard, etc.(those parts i'm fine with)
2.Intel E6700 2.67Ghz Cpu for $1,461(CAN)
So which one would be best for the price. Remember if I where to choose the E6700 I may upgrade my RAM i dunno thought.

What is your intended purpose and what are the other components involved?

Personally I'd go for the E6600 in any case, and spend what you save elsewhere.
But it does depend on the purpose - if it's going to be used for office work it's overkill, if it's a server you'll need more, for example.

I will be using it for gaming, listening to music.

-Built In 8 Channel Audio SPDIF Optical Coaxial(May swap my sound card in  this computer for that one..)
-10 Usb2.0 Ports, 2 Case Fans Led Display Mb
-Maybe Vista or i may stick with XP

Get An E6600 instead and save the cash, a  faster CPU would not make a noticeable difference in games performance.
Other than that it's a pretty nice PC.
Consider another optical drive, it's very useful to have two for direct disc to disc copies and it's inexpensive too.

That's a built in card, you can't remove it.
With a PC like that, it's worth spending a little more and getting a proper sound card, you will notice a big difference in some games and when listening to music.

I just did a 3dmark05 benchmark  with my e6600, 2048 g-skill ram, msi 8800gts
i scored a 14312

the top rated  benchmark was  x6800, 2048 ram ? , with a 8800gtx

why pay the difference if you can't "see" the difference !

There isn't much difference at all, take it from the guy who has one.
The top products are always at a premium which rarely reflects their actual value.

ok. You can get an e6600 model with same components for $1,365. But for $100 more you can get an E6700? Out of the two and price which one is more resonable for the price..?

Get the E6600 instead unless you have that cash to spare on the small increase you will see.
The Core 2 series are so powerful anyway that you wouldn't notice it.

Since my Graphics card it Direct x10 will it only use Dx10 on vista or can i use it on Xp?(Friend told me I couldn't.. I dunno if I can trust him though)

DX10 will not be released for XP, it is Vista only.
But your graphics card will work fine with either OS, don't worry about it.

Sweet. I'm going to be upgrading my Ram to 4Gb with the extra cash. Or upgrading to 6Gbs if I can find a 2Gb stick..

XP will not work with more than 4Gb.
4Gb is also overkill for most people.
1Gb is the sweet spot for performance/price, and 2Gb is good for almost anyone.
